UNION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - JO DUCKWORTH, 641-782-1622.
With our recent water emergency, CodeRED© has been proven to work! As with any new system, the first run brought some challenges to light, so working with the CodeRED technical staff has identified and hopefully taken care of problems such as “overwhelming of phone lines”.
Please make registering one of your “New Year Resolutions”. It is easy to do (takes about 2 minutes) and it is imperative to remember the system is only as complete as you, the residents of Union County can make it. Therefore, in an effort to capture all residences and businesses in Union County for CodeRED Emergency Alerts, there is a link on the Union County’s website at www.unioncountyiowa.org , then click on the register for CodeRED and it will take you to the community page to register or you can call the Emergency Management Office at 641-782-1622 and I will register you on line. Cellular phone users are strongly encouraged to register. You will need to provide phone number, a complete address, and you will be asked if you live in a mobile or manufactured home.
It is especially important for businesses and their critical employees to register, so you are not caught unaware of any emergency situation which may affect your operations.
In December I attended a 4 day training in Anniston, Alabama on the Incident Command System to comply with the State and Federal training mandates. The cost of the training, flights, board and meals were all paid for by the Center for Domestic Preparedness. It was a faced-paced training environment and I feel the benefits were tremendous to all of Union County.
Union County Emergency Management is looking forward to the New Year, with many new projects and public commitments to undertake. After the numerous challenges that were faced in 2008, I believe we are a better prepared community.
