UNION COUNTY AUDITOR - Sandy Hysell, 641-782-1701.
The Union County Offices will close at 12:00 noon on April 10, 2009 to observe Good Friday. Just as a reminder, don't forget to purchase your 2009 Dog Tag for a $1.00. We have been sending out cards to voters who have had no activity in the last 4 years (2 General Elections). If you have received a card, please sign the card and return back to the office. This helps us get our voter files cleaned up. The State will be sending out NCOA Cards to voters who’s address don’t match what is in the State file to what the local post office has on file. If you receive a card, please read over carefully and send back to the office. This will also help us in making sure that we have the right person at the right address so you know the correct place to go vote in the next election. If you receive one of these cards and have any questions, please call the office and we will be more than happy to help you through the process.

UNION COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - Mike King, Chairperson, Ron Riley, Vice-chair, Bob Brown, Bob Jansen, Tom McCann641-782-1720.
UNION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - JO DUCKWORTH, 641-782-1622.
Union County Emergency Management Commission and the Coordinator have been working hard on a number of items this past month. UCEMA’s FY 09-10 has been published, a public hearing held, and approved.
One of the biggest accomplishments and one that can affect a number of Union County residents is the Union County Board of Supervisors with a Memorandum of Understanding to become part of the Southwest Iowa Long-Term Recovery Committee. This has opened a door to the “Unmet Needs Grant” that has been allocated $10M statewide. Each household which has a FEMA registration number that still has unmet needs is eligible to apply for this grant for up to $2500 through the Union County Emergency Management Office. Please call the office at 782-1622 if you would like to make an appointment to discuss and apply for this grant. The grant can be applied to a number of different needs.
April 6th through the 10th is Severe Weather Awareness Week sponsored by the National Weather Service. Union County will be participating in the state-wide annual Tornado Drill, as we have in past years, on April 8, 2009 at approx. 10:00 AM. It is important to note, however, that due to the FCC not allowing the NWS to activate the Emergency Alert System, your weather radios will not be activated, except as denoted by the Regular Weekly Test. So while you may hear this test, the EAS will not be activated. Please listen to KSIB/Creston Radio for further information during the testing period. This is also a good time to test business, school, and residential preparedness plans.
The Coordinator made a presentation to a group of “Head-Start” program parents about CodeRED and preparing a family communication plan in case of an emergency. This was a fun project, which was co-sponsored by Head-Start and Project Recovery. One lucky family even won an “emergency to-go kit”!
We held a Storm Spotter Training on March 3 at SWCC. We had sixty-two attendees! It was a great turn-out and I thank everyone that attended. If there are any other groups or persons out there who would like to have another class, please let me know.
Please feel free to call the office at anytime and be sure to check out the website at unioncountyiowa.org/emergency for new links and more information on preparedness. Stay safe and be prepared!
