UNION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - JO DUCKWORTH, 641-782-1622.
September is National Preparedness Month and the Iowa Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be focusing on Family Preparedness for all Iowans. We have been fortunate this year with the limited number of severe weather events, however, this does not mean we shouldn’t be prepared. There are two very important and basic steps every household should undertake. #1: Create an Emergency Supply Kit. See http://www.bereadyiowa.org/ to get a list of what your kit should include. Keep this kit in a storage tote. It is also very handy to put in your vehicle while traveling during the winter months, in case you should get stranded during snow and ice events. #2: Create a Family Communications Plan. Your plan should address how and where family members can contact you in case of an emergency affecting your residence. This can be used for every day emergencies, as well as those larger-scale emergencies which may affect a portion or the entire county. The website listed above will give you more information on what should be in your Communications Plan.
The Union County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is looking for volunteers to serve. CERT is a valuable asset to the Community. Classes will be scheduled soon, so check out the County website or contact my office for more information or to volunteer. CERT is open to all who wish to volunteer over the age of 16.
Business, civic, and youth organizations wanting a presentation on Emergency Management or Preparedness activities, please contact my office and I will make every accommodation to fulfill your request. I can be reached at 641-782-1622 or by email at ucema@mchsi.com.
