In 1979 the Board of Supervisors passed a resolution that any driveway that is built in Union County off of a county road must be approved by the engineer. Thus an application was produced that must be used in the process.
With every new driveway that is built, as well as driveway extensions, the property owner must come in to the Engineer’s office and fill out the application. The application is used to document the property owner, location, sight distance, size and length of pipe if needed.
Once the application is completed and the location is checked for drainage and sight distance the engineer may approve is the criteria are met. The application does not need to be approve by the Board of Supervisors.
Union County’s policy on driveways is that the property owner must pay for the pipe, if needed, on new driveways and extensions. However, there is no charge for the installation of the entrance. If it is an existing driveway and the pipe is rusted out and needs replaced, the county will cover the cost of the replacement.
