Courthouse News & Announcements

Courthouse News - June 1, 2006

UNION COUNTY RECORDER - Paula White, 641-782-1725.

Boaters Take Note:  last year the law changed concerning boat sales.  Casual sales (sales between individuals) are now subject to Iowa Sales Tax and depending on the point of delivery, local option tax.  Now you need a Bill of Sale from the seller, current registration (expire 4/07) and a title if the boat is 17’ or longer.

We offer all the DNR fishing and hunting licenses.  For anyone 65 and older, we also have lifetime fishing or hunting licenses.

Passport fees are now $97.00 for ages 16 & older and $82.00 for ages 15 & under.  Please apply early to avoid expedite fees.  Processing times (6-8 weeks) are longer due to the number of passport requests and the partial operation of the New Orleans agency. For questions log onto:   travel.state.gov.

The Union County Website is up and running.  Please log onto unioncountyiowa.org.  Forms are available to request a vital record, marriage application, passport application or boat bill of sale form.

Drivers License (hours 8:30-4:00).

The annual tax sale will be held Monday June 19th.  The list of delinquent properties will be published in the Creston News Advertiser on Friday June 2nd.  Taxes that are paid between now and Friday June 16th will be removed from the tax sale.  If you wish to bid on a property at tax sale, you must register by Thursday June 15th.  The registration packet can be downloaded from the website at www.iowatreasurers.org or you may get a copy from our office.

Please remember to bring in your renewal notices when renewing vehicles.  That is the fastest and most accurate way of locating the vehicles due for renewal.  Don’t forget that you may renew your vehicles online at www.getyourtags.com as long as you have received a renewal notice with a PIN number.

If you have a minor son or daughter that wants to get a first time permit, they will need to have a certified copy of their birth certificate, a Social Security card and a notarized parental consent form.  If your child wants to upgrade from the permit to either the minor school license or the intermediate license, they will need their Drivers Ed Certificate and a notarized parental consent form.  If the Drivers Ed Certificate has a completion date that is over 1 year old, the child will have to do a drive test.  They may also have to drive if their birth date falls on the randomly selected drive date.
