Courthouse News & Announcements

Courthouse News - Feb. 7, 2007

UNION COUNTY RECORDER, Paula White, 641-782-1725.

2007 is the year for boat renewals.  Due to a legislative change, boats will now renew for 3 years instead of the 2 year rotation. All Iowa boats will expire April 30, 2007.

REMINDER:  last year the law changed concerning boat sales.  Casual sales (sales between individuals) are now subject to Iowa Sales Tax and depending on the point of delivery, local option tax.  Now you need a Bill of Sale from the seller, current registration (expire 4/07) and a title if the boat is 17’ or longer.

Paid registrations for snowmobiles and ATV expired December 31, 2006.  You can renew by mail or in person and the penalty is a flat $5.00 fee.

Passport fees are now $97.00 for ages 16 & older and $82.00 for ages 15 & under.  Please apply early to avoid expedite fees.  Processing times (6-8 weeks) are longer due to the number of passport requests and the partial operation of the New Orleans agency. For questions log onto:   travel.state.gov.

The Union County Website is up and running.  Please log onto unioncountyiowa.org.  Forms are available to request a vital record, marriage application, passport application or boat bill of sale form.

UNION COUNTY AUDITOR - Sandy Hysell, 641-782-1701.

The Courthouse will be closed on February 19, 2007 to observe President’s Day.  The Auditor’s office is working on the Fiscal Year 2007/08 budget that has to be certified to the State by March 15, 2007.  As a reminder, the County Townships need to be presenting their budgets to our office, in order to have the public hearing before the March 15, 2007 deadline.

UNION COUNTY TREASURER - Linda Marley,  641-782-1710.
Drivers License (hours 8:30-4:00).

Our office mailed delinquent property tax notices on January 31st.  If your September 2006 payment or any prior payments were unpaid, you should receive a notice from us.  The notices include the payment plus penalties through February 2007 and also the amount due by March 31st, 2007.

The Senior Citizen/Low Income property tax credit forms and Rent Reimbursement forms are now available in our office.  You need to file the Property tax credit forms in our office before June 1, 2007.  This credit will apply to the taxes due September 2007 and March 2008.
