In 1964, the Union County Conservation Board was authorized by the people of the County through a general election. It was established to acquire and develop parks, forests, wildlife and other conservation areas, for the enjoyment of residents of Union County and the State of Iowa. In support of this objective, we energetically promote programs and interests in conservation and the preservation of natural resources.
Members of the Conservation Board are appointed for terms of five years by the Board of Supervisors. The present Board members are: Richard Rice, Creston; Paul Downing, Creston; Steve Maltzahn, Creston; Tom Lesan, Creston; and Don Sheridan, Afton.
The Board members serve voluntarily. The 3 full time employees are Doug Jones, Director, Joe Mayhew, Park Ranger, Mike Hilger, Park Ranger.
